Two collections that were part of the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Brown-Heatly Library were relocated to the Texas Department of State Health Services Audiovisual Library in October 2004. At that time, an inter-agency contract for library services was established.
The Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) collection includes videos, books, assessment instruments, audio resources, and journals concerning children who have disabilities or developmental delays. Some of the topics include: child development, intervention strategies, autism, Down syndrome, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, infant mental health, etc. For more information about the ECI Library collection, see http://www.dars.state.tx.us/ecis/resources/library.shtml.
The Rehabilitation Services collection includes videos, books, and journals on all aspects of rehabilitation and disabilities. Examples of topics include: disability awareness and rights, assistive technology, ADD and ADHD, brain injury, deafness, blindness, ergonomics, returning to work, sign language, etc. See also the National Clearinghouse of Rehabilitation Training Materials located at Utah State University.
These materials are available on a free loan basis to residents of the state of Texas for up to 10 business days. Mailing time is automatically added to the two-week loan period.

This book walks readers through the five-step intervention process called Activity-Based
Intervention: Social Emotional. It explains how to screen the child for behaviors
of concern and evaluating the family environment. It performs a more detailed

Viewers see a brief description of the ASQ questionnaires and the screening
process. Then, they watch a home visitor guiding a mother as she fills out
a questionnaire for an infant and tries the ASQ tasks with her child. Through

users will learn how to convert parent responses into point values, compare
the results to the cutoff scores, evaluate sections that are not scored, such
