This season (2007), the Boston Red Sox hosted Disability Awareness Day at Fenway Park. The day itself was a beautiful event. Many fans with disabilities had opportunities to meet their favorite team; a fortunate few had the honor of joining a player on the field; families with a loved one with disabilities filled the stands in support of one another and their brethren across the nation. But, the highlight of the event
Yesterday was the sixth anniversary of the World Trade Center terrorist attack. And, to my estimation of news coverage and community events, it was not as marked an occasion compared to those in the last five years. And, that’s probably a good thing. It is human nature to persevere; to survive, we must move forward.
As you read this, my nephew is being deployed to Iraq. He is 18 years old. So, in spite of recognizing our Darwinian nature, I can't help but be thoughtful now about his and many others' service to our country. How can we here at home manage our daily lives and also remember that on one of our nations' darkest days, Americans re-established our collective conscience and fortitude with displays of awesome heroism and bravery in the midst of great tragedy?
Of course it’s wonderful and inspiring to read and hear uplifting, energizing stories. That’s often why we read blogs, editorials, inspirational books and the like. But, there are days when you just need something that you can apply that will make a difference getting through the daily-ness of life.
So for those of you feeling the same pain as thousands of others across the nation: “OMG! School’s back in gear and what do I do with all these forms and papers and supply lists and vacation bills and medical bills and not to mention my job….and….and….ugh!” Here’s a real answer.
Boonzee is our gift to you, in gratitude for all those who have helped us over the years.
We connect with other families on many levels. Boonzee is here to use the internet to expand our word-of-mouth resources.
1. Boonzee (connect with special needs) friends in any city across the nation to them know about this site.
2. Add a doc or school or website or other resource - don't let your favorite be kept a secret. Return the gift of their great service by connecting them to the clients they serve best.
3. Add an event to the calendar - just list your closest city in the description so people can find it in a search.
4. Have a need, job or item to sell or give away? List it on the classifieds.
Regardless of differences in disability, disease or age, we all share the same need: to make very difficult challenges easier to overcome and to help our loved ones get the best care possible.
We are partners on this quest - and we are better together!
Butterflies and The Edge
“Creativity [and growth] requires the courage to let go of certainties. – Erich Fromm
“Uncertainty is the fertile ground of creativity, of true fulfillment.” Internationally known physician and philosopher, Depak Chopra, The 7 Spiritual Laws of Success (2007)
My daughter was headed to her first sleepaway camp. On our two-hour drive out there she said, “I hate the butterflies in my tummy.” Trying to choke back my own tears and fears, I remembered of all people, Barishnikov.
