In a letter to subscribers, Helen and Charles Schwab announced in 2007 they will be shutting down their websites SchwabLearning.org and SparkTop.org in order to focus their philanthropic efforts on supporting other foundations rather than managing a very extensive website. At the end of February 2008, GreatSchools.net announced they were acquiring Schwab Learning's site. All content from the Schwab site will be maintained through Great Schools. Both web addresses link to the Great Schools site. Boonzee note: This looks to be an efficient use of resources for both organizations.

in order to focus their efforts on grant-funding other organizations. They mention that the landscape of learning disabilities information, research and organization has changed dramatically since their founding. They have invested an impressive $90 million to date.

While I found their site a valuable tool and think the closing of it is a loss to this community, as a former non-profit founder, director, and board member, I understand their need to focus efforts and finances to the arenas their organization can best serve.

I also believe that as they leave the internet, Boonzee can help fill the gap of the loss of this site. If you found SchwabLearning.org to be a valuable tool, contact the site holders through their Feedback form and suggest that Boonzee might be one of the resources their users can move to in the transition. I am in the process of contacting them already and hearing from users will help support Boonzee's growth and connection.
